FAQ with Christy

Q:  How long have you been doing this type of work and how did you get into the business?

A:  I’ve been working in the organizing and design industries for over 6 years, and I launched my brand 2 years ago, but I can honestly say I’ve been training all my life for this.  As a child, instead of playing with dollhouses I was building them and sewing custom miniature decor!  I was also a natural entrepreneur from the moment I placed a cup on the top of the piano in the living room marked, “Christy’s Penny Piano Place.”

As an adult, I was promoted in every job I had because I would take the initiative to organize and create better systems.  At the age of 19 I was promoted to Executive Producer’s Assistant for a major non-profit arts organization, largely due to my planning, organizing and management of their new web presence.  I eventually left the company to pursue my education in the Theatrical Arts and History of Art and Architecture at the University of Pittsburgh.  It was there that I read an article in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette about a Professional Organizer, (a term I had never heard before) and thought to myself, “Hmm, I could do that.”

My first opportunity came during an internship at a talent agency in Los Angeles where I found myself one afternoon enthusiastically re-organizing the office.  I was concerned that the owner would come in the next day and be upset that I had made changes without instruction to do so.  Luckily, the owner was thrilled with the improvement and proceeded to hire me for additional work!  I immediately began freelancing for other organizers, designers, contractors, and furniture showrooms.  My right-brain/arts background gave me a unique advantage over other organizers and my left-brain/logic aptitude helped me distinguish myself from other designers.  I had finally found the perfect blend of my creative, artistic side and my practical, organized side!

But the real reason behind Interior O.D. is my desire to make a difference in people’s lives.  I love using this work to improve not just a person’s home, but the way they live in it and how that enhances their relationships and level of enjoyment in their life.  I want to empower and teach people how to organized their office better, not just because it helps them get more work done, but because the quality of their work experience elevates and their satisfaction with themselves increases.  It’s these internal improvements that can’t be seen with the eye that are the real joy of this work and that’s what I’m here to spread.

Q:  Who are your clients exactly?

A:  My clients are business owners, entrepreneurs, investors and executives, but regardless of their title the one thing they have in common is a desire for growth and improvement in their life.  They are ambitious individuals that have big goals and big plans for how they want to contribute to the world, often through their innovative business endeavors or philanthropic interests.  My clients are also very fun, interesting and inspiring people!  They strive to balance their driven side with their desire for fulfillment and happiness and are some of the most kind-hearted souls I’ve ever encountered.

Q:  How are you different from others in your industry?

A:  As mentioned in the first answer, I’ve found my unique balance of right-brain/left-brain abilities to be a huge difference from others.  More than anything though,  Interior O.D. is at the forefront of creating a new industry, one that addresses each client and project from a holistic level.  What sets us apart is that we see how your physical space affects the rest of your life and our focus is on creating solutions that support what’s most important to you.  An Organizer will approach your project from one angle, an Interior Designer from another, and a Feng Shui Consultant from yet another; but the method I’ve created encompasses all angles, all layers of your space, to deliver the most well-rounded, rewarding results that others may not have even known were possible.
